MXA INTERVIEW
Catching Roger DeCoster for an
interview is notan easy task. Even
more fantastic, this interview was
conducted in the presence of
National AMA Motocross Referee
John “Light Brown ” Lancione — a
tubby little guy who's even more
difficult to slow down for an
interview than Roger.
How did the fantastic feat of a
45-minute interview within the
confines of a janitorial storage
room, located deep down in the
dungeons of the Houston Astro-
dome and adjacent to the MEN’s
(quote) room come about
anyway?
To begin with, Roger and his
newly acquired wife Laurie
(definitely the World's Finest Pit
Tootsie) were in America for two
weeks to participate in the
,000 Yamaha International
Motocross “Super Series," which
began in Daytona and finished up
a week later at the Houston Astro-
dome. Knowing that Roger would
not be back in the States for many
months to come; the cozy home
office staff of MXA located their
“man on the road" (who at the
time was on vacation at Daytona
enjoying the fun of racing, suds
sipping and bikini watching), and
said, “do it” or something to that
effect. It was agreed by all that
the interview would be held the
following weekend in Houston.
Roger and Laurie decided to fly
to Houston with Light Brown. He I
recently purchased one-third !
interest in a non-profit corpora- i
tion whose only asset was an air- i
plane, and. Light Brown is the r
only stockholder who knows how I
to fly — he’s no dummy! Now, I
since the “Man from MXA" was I
driving to Houston from Daytona
anyway, and had plenty of room I
in his van, why not haul Roger’s, /
Laurie’s and Light Brown’s excess i
luggage? So, our man (after a few
more days of suds sipping and <
bikini watching) left Daytona and i
headed West, loaded with Light i
Brown’s, Roger's, and Laurie’s i
excess luggage, trophies, leathers, <
boots, helmets and, of course, ;
dirty laundry. Somehow, the wires
got crossed as to when our man
was io arrive in Houston. He <
thought everyone said be there by
noon, and, he was. However, when
he got there, he found out that ,...
And much more!
