Antique 1920s Art Deco German or Swiss 950 Silver & Crystal Checkerboard Scent / Perfume / Cologne Bottle
This beautiful and decorative piece was handmade around the 1920s in Germany or Switzerland by an unidentified designer. It features a hand cut star bottom crystal bottle with an unusual purple and opaque checkerboard band near the top...very Art Deco. The screw lid is hand hammered from 950 (95%) silver and carries the monogram "LM" on top. The original crystal stopper is still there.
This gorgeous piece is in very good antique condition with some patina according to age which can be polished away easily if desired. The bottle has no damage or repairs and the lid has just one ding an no major scratches. Some flea bites on the bottom edge of the stopper.
Measures 4 1/8" tall x 1 7/8" in diameter (bottom). The opening diameter is 5/8". The solid silver lid weighs an impressive 17 grams.
The piece is stamped 950 for 95% silver and carries the "Half Moon & Crown" hallmark which has been used in both Germany and Switzerland. Also stamped "GM" which are the initials of an unidentified designer. Since 950 silver is common in Switzerland, it is likely Swiss.
