English Sheffield Sterling Silver Antique Bottle Miniature Champagne Ponce

Sheffield Silver Antique Bottle Miniature Ponce for Writing. Although this charming piece looks like a champagne bottle, it was actually made by Sheffield for use on a writing desk. It would have been filled with powder to shake onto wet ink in order to set it. This ponce (sometimes spelled pounce) is stamped with a Sheffield patent mark dated November 28, 1883. There is some slight denting to one side of the silver top as shown in photos. Since ponces are no longer used,  it could be converted to use as a salt or pepper shaker. Very clean,  it measures 4 1/2" tall and is 1 1/2" in diameter at the base.
