Description
Very rare solid Sterling silver church flask with built in sterling silver straw. Curved like a normal hip flask for a snug fit in the po kit. These were known as church flasks because they were Small enough to not only fit in a hip pocket but inside a prayer or hymn book so when the sermon dragged on the congregant could spice things up with a nip through the secret straw for discreet sipping. The very. Top of the flasks twists to open 9 close the straw hole.Holds a half cup or 100 ml of fluid.
Fully hallmarked for Charles Rawlings & William Summers, sterling silver, London, 1860. This was made before the American Civil War, when Victoria was still a young queen and mother, the Russian tsar had not yet freed the serfs, and the Great Sioux War and Little Big Horn were 16 years in the future. It is a very old flask, and has seen a lot of history.
Scratches, tarnish, wear, but sturdy, doesn’t leak, and still good looking.
