Large Antique 1920s Art Deco HERMANN BEHRND, Germany 800 Silver & Crystal Bottle
This unusually large piece was hand made around the 1920s in Dresden, Germany by famous silversmith Hermann Behrnd, who had founded his business in 1881. It features a hand cut crystal bottle mounted with an 800 Silver neck ring, and a stunning solid 800 Silver lid executed in a stunning swirl design. It is too large for a scent bottle and too small for a liquor decanter so I'm not sure about its original purpose; any ideas are welcome!
This gorgeous piece is in very good antique condition. The bottle has no damage or repairs and the lid has no major dings or scratches. The stopper has two chips.
Measures 6" tall x 3 3/4"wide x 2 7/8" deep. The opening diameter is 2 3/16". The solid silver lid weighs an impressive 86 grams and is monogrammed.
The piece bears full hallmarks on both Lid and neck ring: Crown and Crescent for Germany, "800" for a common European Silver standard of 80% Silver and Behrnd's makers mark "HB".
