Rococo Danish Sterling Silver Sugar Spice Caster Hallmarked PM c c1757 Poul Jacobsen Moller
Presented is a large Rococo chased solid silver spice or sugar caster with Maker’s marks. I believe this item to have been made by Danish silver smith Poul Jacobsen Moller Of Viborg Denmark between 1757 – 1765. I have shown my research into these maker’s marks in the photos above. This is a finely crafted and useful item. The lid with a bud finial attaches with a system usually called Bayonet; a peg that slides into slots; in this case the peg can be noted on the outside. It has no monogram and rest on a pedestal base and has a fine detail chased design. This shaker is hallmarked with maker’s mark
. Denmark silver made in this period is usually
826 fine silver; American standard sterling silver is 925, so there is slightly less silver in this alloy. It is a well thought through piece and in beautiful condition with  a few minor flaws of previous repair work noted just below the lid on one side and a small missing portion hidden by lid of basin and a minor dent on the side. Great for everyday use or entertaining.
