Description
Welcome toAntiques & Moore!
This listing is for a monumental Aesthetic Movement repousse decorated Sterling Silver gentleman's flask, c. 1890-1900. This flask is nothing short of amazing from it's monumental size to the elaborately chased floral repousse design that covers the entire body of the flask except for the oval cartouche on one side with a fancy unidentified engraved monogram. The initials are interwoven with such flair that we are unable to decide what letters are engraved. The hinged cap is also decorated with the chased floral design. The cap turns to open and then turns back to lock in place. Inside the cap is a wooden insert that keeps the liquid from leaking. The flask is marked on the bottom "Sterling, 258" with illegible maker's trademark stamp. The details and craftsmanship of the repousse design assures that this flask was made by one of America's premier silversmiths at the turn of the century.
Measures 8 1/2" long, 5 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. Weighs 458 grams.
This rare flask is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws other than one faint no-harm dent on the curved lower edge on one side. It was obviously treasured by each previous owner and will certainly become the highlight of any flask or silver collection.
